The Ohio falcons have flown the coop, so to speak, except for Velocity who is still recovering from lost tail feathers and a wing scrape. There's lots of cool stills on the site, though.

The Buffalo cam is unfortunately kaput, and there are no updates to the site since June 1.

OK, not really, but the eyases in that Columbus Ohio nest were sexed, banded, and named today, and one of the females is named Tempest! *g* (Also they were able to clean the camera lens.)

Meanwhile, there are now two hatchlings in Buffalo, which really shows the size difference.

Apparently last Friday, the male of the Buffalo mating pair didn't want to give up his turn at incubating the eggs. (They're running a few weeks behind the Ohio falcon family.) They have a series of screen captures showing the interaction between the two, and it's kinda neat ( Read more... )

Victory hasn't been around much this afternoon. I did see her about an hour ago, for one screen, then on the next refresh she was gone again. I am fairly sure it was her and not Orville, anyway. He'd look lots smaller. The wee ones don't appear to be crying, or at least I'm not seeing their beaks open.

Sometime between 18:07:10 and 18:41:03 tonight, Victory's tailfeathers ended up all over the nestI hope somebody captured stills of how that happened, because I'm afraid some larger raptor might have tried to get at the hatchlings. Or possibly the father? I know some animal fathers are a danger to their young, but I don't know anything specific ( Read more... )

I think I may have seen four hatchlings this morning. It's hard to be sure, they're all piling on top of each other for breakfast. Also, I'm clearly not the only one pointing all her friends to the site, as the server has been getting just a tad overloaded.

It's hard to tell, the fluff kind of all blends in. But at least a couple of times I thought I could make out three hatchlings while she was feeding the latest prey to them. Though she seemed to have a harder time with this one. She just left the nest again. In my head, she was muttering, "This prey sucks. Too tough. Off to get more." ( Read more... )

I've grabbed some stills to send to ODNR, and will stick some on Photobucket eventually, too, but for now I just wanna watch!
